Individualism: True and False - Foundation for Economic Education - Working for a free and prosperous world

SAMPLE PASSAGE:

" The chief concern of the great individualist writers was indeed to find

a set of institutions by which man could be induced,

by his own choice and from the motives which determined his ordinary conduct,

to contribute as much as possible to the need of all others;

and their discovery was that the system of private property did provide such inducements to a much greater extent than had yet been understood.

They did not contend, however, that this system was incapable of further improvement and, still less, as another of the current distortions of their arguments will have it, that there existed a “natural harmony of interests” irrespective of the positive institutions.

They were more than merely aware of the conflicts of individual interests and stressed the necessity of “well-constructed institutions” where the “rules and principles of contending interests and compromised advantages”[16]

would reconcile conflicting interests without giving any one group power to make their views and interests always prevail over those of all others. " 1

Justice: Why I Loathe Che Guevara

Justice: Why I Loathe Che Guevara -- In a passage from his famous "Motorcycle Diaries," he quotes himself as saying, "My nostrils dilate while savoring the acrid odor of gunpowder and blood." At the same time, he wrote a letter to his father describing his newfound hobby, "I'd like to confess, Papa, at that moment I discovered that I really like killing."

Rather than us in the Present learning from the lessons of the past . . .

this one's different. It teaches the generations of the future from the lessons of our right now, our present.

Education: Never, ever, will the Ignorant Person Be in a Position to . .

Never, ever, will the ignorant person be in a position to hold and pull his or her own strings.

Why do you all think that I'm so big on quality education and research and thinking accurately?

If you can't think of a good reason, I'll give you the main reason.

It's this: I love freedom and I cannot access freedom, I cannot be a person who exercises my God-given free will if I'm an ignoramus, an ignorant person.

Ignorant people are puppets on strings held and pulled by other people.

Why do I say this, make this claim?

" I quote a danish economist is saying that you know
they have such heavy taxation in addition to
the income tax which is quite heavy and
quite progressive there's there are
things like a hundred and eighty percent
sales tax on cars when you buy a car
national sales tax I think is 25 percent
and he said the total tax take that is
danish economist i quote is about 70
percent and so you know the government
takes seventy percent of your income and
so in following my friend Walter
Williams I would point out that that a
good definition of slavery is forcing a
person to work for the benefit of
another person that's a pretty good
definition of slavery now the real
slaves were slaves for 12 months out of
the year but the Danes are slaves for
just 70 percent of the years so they're
not quite as office real slaves they're their only slaves to other people for 70% of the
year instead of instead of 2030. " 1

Battlefield Britain - Spanish Armada

Blogger's Bit is . . . the lesson that I took away from this documentary: If you have to do a professional job, you better be professional yourself or get someone who is - or don't even go near that job until you are that professional enough or have someone who is that professional enough. In other words -- the heat of battle (or a challenging task or job to do) is no circumstance for a raw recruit to be in.

The Spanish raised a huge powerful naval force but they failed to recruit professional cannon gunners to do the actual fighting.

Having soldiers who don't know how to handle the tools of war means you're not in a position to even go into that battle because you can't use amateurs to do the job that's only for professionals to do.

So now matter how powerfully equipped the ships may have been, the men that they staffed them with -- were inexperienced in the use of the military equipment they relied upon. When the British ships came close to the Armadas ships, they let loose with continuous cannon fire and destroyed half the ships that were part of the Armada.

And this stage of the fighting doesn't even include either the fire ships that had scattered the Armada earlier on nor the storms that would destroy what what left of the Armada after this engagement.

During the Spanish Civil War, the militia forces and volunteers on the side of the Republican government, also lacked military knowledge for making effective use of it. In contrast, the soldiers fighting for the rebel cause, especially the Army of Africa, these were professionally trained and led. They had been so thoroughly trained and taught in the use of military weapons and weapons systems that they were too much of a challenge for the Republican forces.

If you're going to have people doing the deadly business of fighting a war, you must have people who know what they're supposed to do in the heat of battle.

So, in the final analysis, Don't Fight Battles that You're Not in a Position to Win!
